Grâce à l’invention de l’imprimerie, le livre accède au XVe siècle à une dimension nouvelle : il devient un objet commercial, produit en masse, qui est rapidement et intensément mis en mouvement à l’échelle de l’Europe. Toulouse, par sa position de verrou entre les royaumes de France et d’Espagne, et en tant que ville universitaire, parlementaire, épiscopale, et marchande, a un fort potentiel culturel et financier à la fin du Moyen-Âge. En étudiant la vie et la circulation des incunables imprimés à Toulouse à partir des années 1470, nous tenterons de comprendre comment Toulouse a réagi face à la révolution de l’imprimé.

Thanks to the invention of the printing device, the book reached a new dimension in the XVth century : it became a commercial item, mass-produced, which was rapidely and intensively set in motion throughout Europe. Toulouse, being a lock between the kingdoms of France and Spain, and as anacademic, parliamentary, episcopal and merchant city, had a strong cultural and financial potential at the end of the Middle Ages. By studying the life and circulation of the incunabula printed in Toulouse from the 1470s onwards, we will try to understand how Toulouse reacted to the print revolution.
