My subject is about contemporary history and the "utmost current" and as I have achieved a training in the redaction of the weekly newspapers L'Express in may 2008, I gained a fruitful insight in this domain. President Nicolas Sarkozy, in a speech he delivered in Bercy during his presidential campaign, asked whether the legacy of events that occured in may 1968 must be given some value or not. His words have ignited various actors but also the media and even some people who did not experienced these events. In the contrary, another part of the opinion approves the idea that the impacts of the events were not prominent. My subjectivity was a risk for my argumentation because, for sure, two points of view were opposed, and I had to keep, as much as possible, the objectivity of an historian. My very large corpus concerns all press titles published in 2008 : dailies, weeklies, numbers and special reports, special series and even some union journals. One of the main difficulties was access to sources. In fact, one of the only libraries that offer [sic] these Newspapers archives was the BML (the library of Lyon), but the delays to obtain these archives were long. Moreover, I could only consult three titles by three titles and the consultation room was quite a noisy place. Fortunately, the valuable assistance of one of the specialists living in Lyon, Michele Zancari-Fournel [sic], helped me a lot. For example, the use of the term "May 1968" isn't accurate. Better to say "May-June 1968" or "the events of 1968". Besides, his [sic] book Le Moment 68, une histoire contestée was a real reference for my research. In particular, Ms Zancarini-Fournel explains that in France, the events are reduced to the geographical sphere of "Paris" and "Nanterre" and that the actors were reduced to students and some personnalities like Daniel Cohn-Bendit. This fuelled my part about historiographical news. My outline is divided into three parts : "unravel the mystery of 1968", "analysis of human and social sciences professionals" and "1968 pictures used by the press". My second part focuses on "following the historiographical news?", "the importance of testimonies" and "the place of photographs in the press in 2008". Lastly, my third part puts into perspective two contradictory views : first, "the president's speech and the persistence of a memory in the 'French right' "and then 'the memory of the children's of May recurs".
